About Little Kids Photography by Little Mama™

I found photographing babies and young children very satisfying. It’s a blessing to see and capture the little angels in their natural behaviour.

Everything about babies are fascinating. The silky skin, the bright eyes, the purest smiles and of course, their little antics. Every picture has a story. So, let me freeze the magic moments of your little ones so you can treasure it forever.

ANNOUNCEMENT | CURRENTLY I’M NOT ACCEPTING ANY NEW PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT/SESSION DUE TO BUSY SCHEDULES. THANK YOU.

Hello there! My name is Ros, also known as Little Mama™. Welcome to my little kids photography studio!

I’m a mom who loves snapping pictures of my one and only daughter, Izzah by using camera phone, compact Olympus µ725, Olympus E500 DSLR and my newly bought Nikon D90.

I have fallen in love with photography since I was 13 years old. It was 1987 and it was the old time of film rolls …ha..ha..ha

When my first niece was born in 1988, I found photographing babies and young children very satisfying. It’s a blessing to see and capture the little angels in their natural behaviour.

Everything about babies are fascinating. The silky skin, the bright eyes, the purest smiles and of course, their little antics.

My first camera was a Konika which I bought using a little saving that I had. Well, RM100 was not cheap for a kampung school girl like me. But, that old faithful Konika helped me captured many magical moments of secondary and hostel’s life back then.

When, I was studying in a university, I borrowed my brother’s Canon SLR. Good films with different set of ISO and printing cost were not cheap either. That’s why I didn’t really focus on this little passion of mine.

But, with the birth of digital camera, photography is given a new dimension. Almost everyone can afford it!

My first digital camera was a Sony Cybershot 6.0 megapixel (bought in 2006). Then, I sold that to a brother-in-law and bought a new Olympus U725SW. This Olympus compact digital camera is waterproof and shockproof.

I got a hefty bonus in 2007 so I bought a digital SLR (DSLR). The Olympus E500!

Well, the E500 is kind of a DSLR for a professional. But, I usually used it to take pictures of landscapes and buildings for my travel websites. And, it serves me well!

After Izzah was born, I switched my photography passion from landscapes back to kids photography. And, I love taking kids photography so much. Especially, if the pictures turn out really crisp and lovely.

You see, I have took thousands of Izzah’s picture since she was 1 day old until now. On daily basis during the first month and later categorised by month.

Watching my baby every move, expression and her miraculaous achievements made each day is awe-inspiring.

So, I decided to learn more about babies and kids photography. In early 2009, I signed myself with ThePhotoMama.com, which was a place for mommies to learn photography through video lessons. The principal is Saiful Nang, a well-known wedding photographer in Malaysia. Saiful has been shooting wedding pictures of many celebrities and royal families.

I have attended a few Photo Clinics where Saiful Nang personally teached and correct us on the spot. I’m very lucky to get photography lessons from a professional photographer like Saiful Nang.

Since then, I have been seriously taking babies and kids photography. I read photography books and subscribed to Digital Camera (Malaysia) and Digital Photo (Britain) magazines. And, I really love the so-called photojournalistic style!

Photojournalism means capturing the magic moment as and when it happen – in it’s natural environment. This means, I will be using available light and available props. No studio setting, lighting or equipment – only me, my DSLR and the subject(s).

You see, I love taking kids picture using the natural lights especially the soft window light. This type of light can be manipulated to create very stunning high key images.

Eye contact is important but in photojournalism that can be put aside. Trying to get a subject’s eye contact in each of the picture would make the story very unnatural.

That’s why I love letting the subject does whatever she wanted to do. Set her free and you would get stunning pictures with great stories.

My favorite angle would be from the side where you can see her eyes looking attentively at something. As well as, the back side of the subject where it creates a kind of mystery to what the subject is doing.

Every picture has a story. So, let the picture illustrate the magic stories to the world.

After a year of learning, studying and experimenting, I’m now ready to take my kids photography knowledge to another level. It’s time for me to use my talents to freeze the magic moments of your little ones, and treasure it forever.

I prefer to shoot in the early morning and late afternoon for a better quality of natural lights. But, as a mother of a cheeky little daughter, I do understand that the young ones may not be that flexible. I would be happy to sit down and discuss with you the better timing for the photo shoot.
